Even if you haven’t gone out of your way to hear an individual Skrillex or Diplo production, there is a good chance… okay, an almost certain chance that you’ve heard a Jack Ü song simply by turning on the radio. When two individual powerhouses join forces with specialties in genres that dot across the dance music spectrum, there’s bound to be a special and groundbreaking result. Their debut ten-track LP, 'Skrillex & Diplo Present Jack Ü' was a co-release between their labels OWSLA and Mad Decent that not only peaked at the No.1 spot on Billboard’s US Dance/Electronic Albums chart, but showed audiences a glimpse into the duo’s quest for crossover dominance, with featured collaborations from Kiesza, 2 Chainz, AlunaGeorge and, yes, Justin Bieber. It wound up being an incredibly savvy move not just for Skrill and Dip, but for Biebs as well. As Helena Legend told us in her Lucky 7 interview: “They turned Justin Bieber’s career around — he owes a lot to them! They changed everyone’s opinion.” Jack Ü the duo do indeed seem to be the Oprah of dance music, making everything they co-sign popular. Though 2016 hasn’t seen new material yet, everyone is waiting excitedly for the upcoming collaboration with Florence & the Machine, ‘Constellation’, the audio for which first leaked back in August.
